Communications and Development Manager

AVFilm, a regionally acclaimed, non-profit film exhibition and educational organization in Northern Sonoma County, CA, seeks a full-time Communications and Development Manager. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications and Development Manager will be responsible for telling the organization’s story to internal and external stakeholders. 

Position Summary

The Communication and Development Manager will be responsible for managing the organizational communications program and will communicate AVFilm’s impact to a wide variety of audiences via the website, social media, and print material. The ideal candidate will possess a hybrid experience in communications, social media management, brand management, and marketing development to execute all programming and related campaigns and eventually build and manage a team. The Communication and Development Manager will also support all development efforts to uphold the organization’s goals and mission. The candidate will manage the organization’s fundraising database and help organize and implement special events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

80% Communications; 20% Development

The essential functions include but are not limited to the following:


  • Audience development and outreach with a focus on inclusion and belonging.
  • Manage relationships with filmmakers, stakeholders, and industry colleagues. 
  • Communicate AVFilm’s brand and initiatives efficiently and accurately via multiple channels (website, printed materials, social media, etc.). 
  • Provide training to the AVFilm team, including brand and style guides, to ensure consistent and effective brand communication via social media, website, video production, print materials, and verbal communication.
  • Work with a third-party web manager to ensure AVFilm’s website is always up to date and functioning correctly.
  • Design and publish marketing pieces utilizing emerging tools to help increase awareness of program areas.
  • Coordinate communications efforts for special events.
  • Manage media relations, including building relationships with media contacts and proactively securing media opportunities. 
  • Craft talking points and develop effective media strategies that may include press outreach and innovative social media.
  • Create, format, and distribute regular email newsletters and manage email lists using MailChimp.
  • Develop marketing and social media strategies, using social media data and analytics to make critical decisions.
  • Lead efforts to continue sharpening social media presence to engage supporters, build momentum, and share success stories.
  • Create, and edit video content.
  • Manage the organization’s communications assets, including photo library, success stories, logo library, infographics, design files, print, and digital collateral.
  • Provide assets to other team members as needed.


  • Manage and maintain donor database to include basic donor information and donation history.
  • Responsible for timely acknowledgment and recognition of donors as appropriate.
  • Utilize the database to pull reports, mailing lists, and donor records to assist fundraising efforts such as individual asks, annual mailings, and grant writing.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key donors and sponsors in the community on behalf of AVFilm.
  • Maximize sponsor partnerships during the film festival, ensuring sponsors are visible and engaged.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bilingual/Bicultural in Spanish/Latinx community preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent desired.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of communications experience.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills and the ability to write in a clear and compelling style.
  • Proven track record of running successful social media campaigns, increasing subscribers and engagement.
  • Ability to analyze the effectiveness of all marketing and communications efforts.
  • Ability to prioritize and lead multiple projects, activities, and actions with competing deadlines and levels of urgency.
  • Self-motivated, accountable to goals, and willingness to learn new techniques, ideas, and skills.
  • Excellent personal organization, work planning, and time management skills.
  • Desired computer skills include proficiency with G-Suite, Adobe Suite, Sprout Social, DonorPerfect, Auctria, Smartsheet, Slack, and Canva.
  • Experience with arts and non-profit preferred.

Benefits & Wages
Salary: $65,000-$68,000 to start, commensurate with experience, plus benefits. Qualified applicants must report in-person to AVFilm offices in Healdsburg, CA.

Schedule & Location
Monday-Friday, 9-5, with occasional nights and weekends.
