The editing stage of filmmaking is when you really bring your story to life! Whether your film is to remember a family event, promote a business, or tell a fictional tale, knowing how to edit gives you the skills to communicate your message in the strongest possible way. This 3-hour workshop will guide you through the basics of editing captured content to tell your story. We will provide video footage for you to edit or bring your own. You’ll use readily available online editing software tools so that you can continue to tell visual stories long after you leave the workshop.
Heather (she/her) is a videographer who worked as an art history college instructor, a museum director, and an art curator before shifting to video production and editing. She has created promotional videos for many Sonoma County nonprofits, businesses, and visual artists and has collaborated with several local bands on music videos. Her first documentary short focused on the unhoused community in Santa Rosa, and she is currently working on her second documentary short film. She is excited to bring all of her experiences together with her passion for teaching to the Teaching Artist program at AVFilm.
What do I need to bring?
No supplies are required for any of these classes! We do encourage bringing a cell phone and a computer or notebook for taking notes. All supplies will be provided, but if you prefer to use your own laptop or headphones/earbuds, please bring them.
Where is Plaza Cinema Center located?
We are located at 375 Healdsburg Ave. Suite 200 in Healdsburg, CA. When you arrive, come into the courtyard behind Troubadour and enter through the double doors to the right. The classroom is upstairs to the left in Suite 200.
What if I already have footage I want to edit?
We encourage you to bring your own footage! This is not necessary to take the class. If you do wish to use your own footage, you need to arrive 30 minutes early to upload it to the computer. Only a portion of the footage will be needed.
No one will be turned away for lack of funds. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact us at tess.aston@avfilmpresents.org.
