JACK HAS A PLAN
(USA, 73 min)
Directed by Bradley Berman
When San Francisco musician, storyteller, and self-proclaimed apartment guru Jack decides to end his life due to an irreversible brain tumor (and asks filmmaker Bradley Berman to document the experience), the result is the immensely thought-provoking and hugely entertaining documentary Jack Has a Plan. Despite the film’s heavy premise, Berman’s film is surprisingly light and airy. It captures Jack’s witty persona while underscoring his unwavering desire to die with dignity on his own terms. Taking advantage of California’s 2016 ballot initiative that permits physician-assisted suicide, Jack realizes that dying is a gift, one that his wife and friends must accept at his final, permanent going away party.
