LITTLE RICHARD: I AM EVERYTHING
(USA, 98 min)
Directed by Lisa Cortés
SYNOPSIS:
“I am the originator, the emancipator, the architect of rock-n-roll,” exclaims Richard Penniman. He was right. The flamboyant, outspoken, and often hilarious musical icon finally gets his due in Lisa Cortés’ new documentary, Little Richard: I Am Everything. Featuring newly discovered archival footage and interviews with a pantheon of rock-n-roll legends, the film offers a deep dive into the musical genius’ early influences as well as the role he played in the history of popular music. The film thoughtfully deconstructs the complex nature of Little Richard’s personal and public identity to reveal how his Black and queer roots were inextricably linked to the subversive nature of the art form.
