Her commitment to using fresh, quality, local, whole foods and ingredients from farm to table has introduced inspired healthy recipes to a vast audience of an adoring public. More about the wines…(with notes from curator and former Board member Jim Kuhner of coferment.com)
Amista (Passed apps + welcome toast with Sparkling Blanc de Blanc) – Amista, roughly translated, means “making friends” in Spanish. Owners Vicky and Mike Farrow chose it because their personal journey into wine has been all about friends. They work to preserve the essential characteristics of the fruit – in this case, Syrah grapes, from which they create Sparkling Syrah and Tres, a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
Vaughn Duffy Wines (1st Course White Wine TBD most likely Sauvignon Blanc) – Matt Duffy is an amazingly talented winemaker turning out classic varieties from some of Sonoma county’s premier vineyard sites. He’s got a lovely tasting room in Kenwood and is a sweetheart of a human being. We love the Vaughn Duffy’s, their family, and their wines!
Freeman Vineyard & Winery (Main Course Pinot Noir either Russian River or Sonoma Coast) – Ken and Akiko Freeman have a stunning property, vineyard, and winery with caves out west of Sebastopol in the Green Valley AVA of Sonoma County. Stunning wines with purity, vibrancy, freshness, and tons of flavor. They are generous wines with integrity and I’m very pleased that Ken agreed to participate.
Bricoleur Vineyards (3rd Course Dessert paired with their Flying by the Seat of our Pants California Red Blend) – An homage to co-founder/co-proprietor Beth Hanson’s family roots in the Sonoma County wine industry, this CA Red Blend is a mix of 60% Zinfandel and 30% Syrah with small amounts of Petit Sirah and Pinot Noir. After all, Beth’s great grandfather, Pietro Carlo Rossi, was the original oenologist at Sonoma County’s historic Italian Swiss Colony. While not a sweet dessert wine, per se, there’s plenty of juicy and jammy fruit.
What we love most about all four of the wineries participating in this lovely dinner at Lo & Behold, is that they are all 100% family owned and operated. Small, boutique, fabulous wines, wonderful people, and all have diverse hospitality and tasting room offerings to boot.
